Compress PNG — Free Online, No Upload

Drop a PNG into PicBrewery and download a smaller lossless PNG — optimized with oxipng in your browser. No upload, no watermark, no account.

Compare PNG trade-offs on the formats hub.

How to compress PNG

  1. Open PicBrewery.
  2. Drop your .png file (or several) on the drop zone.
  3. Wait for the results row. The PNG column is oxipng-optimized — same pixels, fewer bytes.
  4. Download from the PNG cell or use Download all as ZIP.

Lossless PNG optimization

PicBrewery uses oxipng for PNG output — lossless DEFLATE recompression, palette quantization where applicable, and metadata stripping. Visual pixels do not change.

Screenshots and UI assets with flat colors often shrink 20–50%. Photographic PNGs (rare but possible) may see smaller gains because PNG is the wrong codec for photos.

When WebP or AVIF beats PNG

For web delivery, lossy WebP or AVIF with alpha is often much smaller than PNG. PicBrewery shows all formats side by side — compare bytes before you pick. See PNG to WebP or compress AVIF.

Frequently asked questions

Is PNG compression lossless in PicBrewery?

Yes — oxipng recompresses PNG without changing pixels. What you see is what you get.

Will transparency survive?

Yes. Alpha channels are preserved in the PNG output.

Why is my PNG still large?

PNG is lossless — photographic content belongs in JPEG, WebP or AVIF. If you need smaller files and can accept lossy compression, check the WebP or AVIF columns.

Will EXIF survive?

No; metadata is stripped during optimization.

Can I batch-compress PNGs?

Yes — up to 20 files per batch with ZIP download.
