Frequently asked questions
Does PicBrewery resize or crop images?
No. Compression means re-encoding the same pixel dimensions — not changing width or height.
Which format gives the smallest file?
For photos, AVIF is usually smallest, then WebP, then JPEG. For flat graphics with transparency, PNG or AVIF with alpha wins. PicBrewery shows all sizes side by side.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Processing runs entirely in WebAssembly inside your browser.
Can I compress many images at once?
Yes — up to 1000 files per batch, 20 MB each.
Will metadata and AI labels survive?
No. Re-encoding drops EXIF, XMP, IPTC and C2PA Content Credentials, including labels left by AI generators. The color profile is kept. Remove AI labels and metadata.
What is the difference between compress and convert?
Compress keeps the same format (or picks the smallest re-encode of that format). Convert changes format — e.g. JPG to WebP. PicBrewery produces all outputs in one pass so you can compare.
