Why convert JPG to PNG?
JPEG is lossy — re-saving the same photo repeatedly adds artifacts. Exporting to PNG gives a lossless container for the current pixel data, which some design tools and print pipelines prefer.
PNG files are often larger than the source JPG because PNG cannot magically restore detail JPEG already discarded. Convert when the workflow requires PNG, not to shrink bytes.
When to stay on JPG
For web delivery and email attachments, JPEG or WebP is usually the better choice. See JPG to WebP if you want a smaller modern format instead.
Frequently asked questions
Does JPG to PNG improve quality?
No — you cannot recover detail JPEG compression removed. PNG preserves the decoded pixels losslessly going forward.
Will the PNG be larger than the JPG?
Usually yes for photographs. PicBrewery shows exact byte sizes side by side.
Does JPG to PNG add transparency?
No — a flat JPEG becomes an opaque PNG. Transparency must come from the source artwork.
Will EXIF survive?
No; PicBrewery strips EXIF, ICC and XMP on re-encode.
Can I batch-convert?
Yes — 20 files per batch, ZIP download supported.
